Suno just made its biggest product move since it launched.

On August 13, the company shipped Studio 2.0 — a significant update to its existing platform that adds MIDI support, live audio tracking, advanced stem splitting, and a custom AI plugin creation system. Covered across FutureTools and the broader AI music press, this isn’t a minor iteration. It’s Suno making a deliberate play at something it’s never seriously targeted before: the production workflow of working musicians and audio professionals.

What’s Actually New

Four headlining features in Studio 2.0, and they’re meaningfully different from each other.

MIDI support is the big one. Suno can now export MIDI alongside audio — which means the melody, chord structure, and rhythm it generates aren’t locked inside a WAV file anymore. The bigger threat, though, might be to the traditional DAW market rather than to Udio specifically. But the mid-market: the content creators, the independent musicians, the podcast producers, the YouTube composers. MIDI and stems turn that output into a starting point rather than a finished product, which is what most serious music creators actually want from an AI tool.

The risk is that Suno bit off a lot here. Four major features in one release, two of which (live audio tracking, custom plugins) are genuinely novel capabilities with unclear implementation details. That’s either a confident product team that knows what it’s shipping, or a lot of things that’ll need patches in the weeks ahead.

If the MIDI and stem features work as described — and there’s no particular reason to expect they don’t, given Suno’s track record — Studio 2.0 is the update that earns Suno a place in production workflows it was previously excluded from. The platform doesn’t become a Logic Pro replacement next week. But the gap between “AI music toy” and “AI production tool” just got a lot smaller.
